Hoghton Station in the 50's

Hoghton Station was situated on the East Lancashire Line between Preston and Blackburn. It was closed by British Rail in 1963.  They dismantled and removed the buildings that had stood on the station.  In 1966 my uncle and father bought the Station and converted it into a depot for selling ex-MOD vehicles - Crook Brothers.

  1. Bought a SWB hardtop Landover from Crook Brothers there and collected it 15/12/71. 24v converted to 12v. Petrol 2.25l. Blue and cream. GTB527K. Split rim wheels and bar grip tyes. Great in the snow, (not). It went on forever. The oil cooler made a mooing sound. Sold it when it died to a friends son who revamped it really well. Still got the HT 'cos I thought I might get another, but never did. It was still registered up to about 4 years ago. A friend bought STF494H. Green soft top. All old ex mod vehicles in the yard. And some youngster driving around in a haflinger. Wonderful. A different time and place. Happy days.
